Taxonomy The problem with Munida bamffia is that some authors confused the different species. This confusion was solved by Rice & de Saint Laurent in 1986 (Journal of Natural History, 20:143-163). The name Munida bamffia is not valid (it is a synonym of Munida rugosa). However, numerous authors used the name bamffia during XIX century and begining of XX century, however, they used this name for different species (e.g. intermedia and rugosa).
